AGT Membership Application

The Association of Government Toxicologists (AGT) was founded in 1983 to promote and facilitate the acquisition and utilization of knowledge in toxicology, and to provide opportunities for government toxicologists to meet and exchange ideas.

Members

Full Members: Persons who are employed by the federal government and who are qualified in toxicology or a related field. Requirements for Full Membership are described in further detail in the AGT Constitution and By-laws as follows: "Persons who are employed by the Federal Government and who are qualified in toxicology: (1) by having been elected as full member of the Society of Toxicology or equivalent; or (2) by virtue of having been certified in toxicology through the successful completion of an objective, written, examination in toxicology; or (3) by virtue of having obtained a Ph.D., or equivalent in an appropriate field (e.g. toxicology, pharmacology, physiology, and biochemistry) and having worked for at least 3 years as a doctorate level toxicologist; or (4) by virtue of having obtained a bachelors or masters degree or equivalent in an appropriate field (e.g., toxicology, pharmacology, physiology, or biochemistry) and having worked for at least five years as a toxicologist shall be eligible for membership in the AGT as Full members, subject to conditions set forth in the By-laws of AGT."

Associate Members: Persons who were once employed by the federal government, who are employed by a state government in a non-academic position, or who are full-time federal government contractors and who are qualified in toxicology or a related field. Requirements for Associate Membership are described in further detail in the AGT Constitution and By-laws as follows: "Persons who are employed by the Federal Government and who have a degree in an appropriate field (e.g., toxicology, pharmacology, physiology, or biochemistry) but are not qualified in toxicology as defined in Section 2 of the Article shall be eligible for membership in the AGT as Associate members. Persons who are not employed by the Federal Government, but who are qualified in toxicology as defined in Section 2 of the Article and: (1) who have been Federal employees in the past but have been separated from Federal government employment by retirement, reduction in force (RIF), resignation or otherwise; or (2) who are employed by any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia (except in universities or colleges); or (3) who are employed as contractors working exclusively on Federal government contracts, shall be eligible for membership in the AGT as Associate members, subject to conditions set forth in the By-laws of AGT. Once persons have been accepted by AGT as Associate members, they remain eligible to continue as Associate members regardless of their subsequent employment histories."

Dues are $35.00/year.

Activities

AGT benefits and activities include a Website which includes a directory of members, an annual picnic (free to members and their families), full-day symposia on special topics, and evening meetings (with free supper provided).
